Did you know there are roughly 800,000 young adults living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes in the United States and that The Diabetes Link is the only diabetes organization for young adults? We exist so that no young adult living with diabetes has to face their transition to independence, alone.
Our mission is to empower all young adults with diabetes by providing access to the peer support, connections, and expert resources they need to thrive.
Our vision is of a future where all young adults are equipped and inspired to live confidently and courageously with diabetes.
To succeed, we need your support. Every donation directly strengthens the critical infrastructure, programs, and people who make The Diabetes Link the trusted resource young adults and their families rely on; from peer mentorship programs and culture forward education to multi-audience outreach and strategic partnership.
By supporting The Diabetes Link you are investing in the potential of today's young adults.
Thank you!
The Diabetes Link is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, and your donation is tax deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I make a recurring gift?
This is an easy way to spread your support over time with monthly or quarterly gifts.
Recurring giving lets you make a meaningful impact at a pace that works for your budget. It also gives The Diabetes Link the predictable funding needed to plan programs and serve young adults year-round.
What is Corporate Matching and how does it double my gift?
Many employers match their employees’ charitable contributions, potentially dollar-for-dollar.
If your company has a matching gift program, your donation to The Diabetes Link could be worth twice as much at no additional cost to you. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees or their spouses.
TO GIVE: Check with your HR department or your company's giving portal. We are happy to provide any documentation needed to process the match.
How do I donate appreciated stock?
Donating stock or mutual funds that have grown in value lets you avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation. You also receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value, a double benefit compared to selling first and donating cash.
TO GIVE: Contact your broker or financial advisor to initiate a direct transfer of shares to The Diabetes Link. We will provide our account and DTC transfer details upon request.
What is a DONOR-ADVISED FUND (DAF) and how can I use it strategically, to make a donation?
DAFs let you make large charitable contributions in one year, take the full deduction immediately, then recommend grants over time. Under the OBBB Act, bunching several years of giving into a single DAF contribution can maximize your tax benefit while you still support us annually through ongoing grant recommendations.
TO GIVE Log in to your DAF account (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, or your fund sponsor) and recommend a grant to The Diabetes Link!
What is the EIN for The Diabetes Link?
Our EIN is 27-2774316.
What is the OBBB Act?
1. Non-itemizers can deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for married couples) on charitable gifts without itemizing.
2. If you itemize, only gifts exceeding 0.5% of your adjusted gross income qualify for a deduction. DAFs can ensure your philanthropic goals while retaining the tax advantage.
3. Naming The Diabetes Link as a beneficiary of your IRA or a gift in your will can reduce that tax burden. Many states tax estates of $1M or less. (The federal estate tax exemption increased to $15M.)
